And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. Matthew 10:30 (NLT)
Vaccine, Masks, Social Distancing. Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson. 1 shot, 2 shots, booster this year and maybe every year. Government Mandates or you can’t serve your country, School Mandates or you can’t go to school, Business Mandates or you can’t work. Don’t wear a mask, wear any mask, wear a paper mask, wear a cloth mask, wear one mask, wear two masks. Here are mans fix to COVID, a fix that should be taken with a grain of salt and an ere of caution
Get vaccinated and you can return to normal. Get vaccinated and you don’t have to wear a mask and you can hang out with as many people as you want. If you get vaccinated you wont get the virus, but If you do get the virus, you wont know it, but if you do know it, it will be like a cold, maybe a bad cold, but a cold none the less. These of course are the assurances of man, assurances that don’t give much assurance.
I have made up my own mind about masks, mandates, and vaccines. I’ll leave it to everyone else to form their own opinion.
God has planned out our days. In fact scripture says that everyday of our lives are recorded, every moment was laid out even before we were born (Psalm 139:16). Does this mean not to do what we think we should do to stay safe? Of course not, but if we think we are doing something to add days to our lives we are mistaken. We do what we believe we should do, always understanding that God is in full control of our lives.
I was reminded recently of the importance of not thinking that man would give us one additional day on this earth. A dear family friend passed from complications of COVID. She was fully vaccinated, in fact she was one of the first. She left this earth after several weeks in Intensive Care. Did she think that the vaccine would protect her? Sure she did, but she also knew that she could not cheat God. She knew she could not add one day to the life that God had given her. Even with the vaccine, her faith was in God. Her trust was not in man, but in the blood of Calvary.
The unbeliever is expected to put all of their hope in man, because they have no choice. The believer on the other hand knows their hope rests in Christ. It causes me confusion to see Christians bickering over masks and vaccines as if by doing what man says, we can add numbers of days to the book. We cannot cheat God, we cannot add one day to our lives, for those days are set. We should live this day, and everyday as if it were our last. We should spend everyday living the life of Christ and bringing Glory to God (and telling the world “My faith is in man” does not bring any Glory to God). I am vaccinated, I wear a mask, and I will obey my government up to the point where it conflicts with the commands of Christ. But what I will not do is pretend like I can cheat God, and neither should you.
